The Challenge of Pentecost Acts 2:1-4, TPT “On the day Pentecost was being fulfilled, all the disciples were gathered in one place. (2) Suddenly they heard the sound of a violent blast of wind rushing into the house from out of the heavenly realm. The roar of the wind was so overpowering it was all anyone could bear! (3) Then all at once a pillar of fire appeared before their eyes. It separated into tongues of fire that engulfed each one of them. (4) They were all filled and equipped with the Holy Spirit and were inspired to speak in tongues empowered by the Spirit to speak in languages they had never learned.” The original meaning of pentecost - A Jewish holiday held 50 days after Passover, it was of the three major feasts during the Jewish year. It celebrated thanksgiving for harvested crops. In the greek language it comes from the meaning of 50 days of the first fruits of the wheat/barley harvest. in the hebrew it means (Shavuot) it was primarily a thanksgiving for the first fruits of the wheat harvest. celebrated 50 days starting from passover to pentecost. it is also called the feast of weeks because it was celebrated 7 weeks after passover. Also because it celebrates the 50th day that had come out of Egypt and received the commandments from the Lord. The day of Pentecost for the church speaks of Kingdom power and potential given through the baptizing of the Holy Spirit. It would become the very birth and empowering of the church to do the things that Christ did, and to live the very life that Christ lived. At this present moment in time, the current culture is facing a great divide caused by mans inhumanity to man. Which stems from the demonic system that desires to divide and destroy all of mankind. through bigotry and racism. The challenge of Pentecost is the reality that hatred and indifference has influenced many who are in the body of Christ, with learned behaviors of the heart. Therefore these are not godly in their content. The challenge to the believer is to be empowered with the very life and power of Christ, and to live above these demonic influences, and to be the kingdom change agents we were meant to be. To live the life he lived, and to do the things he did.
